Overall it was an ok experience with this hotel, but it did not live up to our expectations. From my point of view it is not a 4 star hotel by far. In the room we had ants. The fact that we were not offered slippers and bathrobe was again a little disappointing. If you want to play pool, you have to pay. Parking at the hotel is not free either. The breakfast was good but not up to expectations. The hotel also accommodates a lot of 4th graders.The hotel staff is very nice and friendly.

Our experience

Exceptionally clean all through the hotel. The breakfast buffet was amazing with so much choice and friendly service. We had a buffet dinner one night  and again there was a huge choice. For 28 euros each for a 3 course, eat as much as you want meal, it was great value and very tasty. 
The walk into Funchal along the sea front is gorgeous with restaurants en route but it is quite a long walk. 5 kms or about 1 hr 10 mins to reach the old town of Funchal.

The only disappointing bit was that we were in block C which is furtherest from the sea and the swimming pool which are located in Block A. Hence, the photo of the pool is a bit misleading since we never saw it! It felt like we were in a different hotel looking out over the main road.  It would be nice if you knew when booking which block you were allocated. 
Despite this, it was a lovely hotel to stay in and I would highly recommend it.

Perfect location for a seafront walk into Funchal.

Just returned from a lovely week. Staff are lovely friendly and helpful. Especially the restaurant and housekeeping staff. Fab shower .comfy beds. Highly recommend ..quiet.clean good bus routes .close to beach .it is quite hilly so good to be prepared

We stayed 11-18 Mar and stayed SC, 
The bad points:
The hotel is 3 star at best, the access to the outdoor pool was blocked off due to internal building work. We were unable to sit on our balcony during the day (8am-6pm) due to the noisy building work in the local area. Note there are some extensive buildings going up near the hotel so this noise is likely to impact on your balcony experience. In a funny way, the layout of this hotel takes some skills in navigation. It may take you some time to get used to the layout and you could lose your way at some point.
The good points:
Check in was smooth and rooms were big and spacious. Hotel and Bar staff friendly and always willing to help. There are numerous restaurants to eat locally and even a food court 5mins for fast food (Pizza.KFC/McD's). Funchal is about a 20min walk or 30min walk if you take the coastal route. Recommend 'Dona Nina' Fish Restaurant around the corner, we dd not know that it was rated 3rd best Fish Restaurant in Funchal, food was amazing and cheap. We went there twice....Funchal is wonderful, I recommend SC as local restaurants are cheap, coffee and pastries comes in under ten euros for 4 people and dish of the day is also cheap. Shop around for the best excursions and use them, hire cars are available but you miss the local knowledge and history. Valley of the Nuns and the trip around the west coast is a defo must (inc a dip in the natural sea pools). Enjoy Madeira, its simply wonderful and you get a better experience using this hotel as a base rather than an all inclusive venue.

Not a bad location or hotel but beware the internal building work and external noisy building work.....

We had a 4 night stay here recently. The hotel is nice enough with good soundproofing. The layout is a little confusing as it’s in 3 blocks. 
We stayed half board, dinner was generally good (it gets busy so be prompt) Breakfast was a little repetitive & super busy.
Our suite was nice, the beds comfortable, the kitchenette was useful. I didn’t like our bathroom, for some reason we were given a fully disabled one with an extra high uncomfortable toilet, a strange sink & the shower only had a curtain so the floor got soaked.
The staff were pleasant.
There is a bus stop right opposite the hotel which would be useful but we opted to walk to Funchal & get a taxi back.

Short stay

This modern hotel is located in a prime location on Estrada Monumental and offers a relaxing atmosphere with avant-garde interiors and a modern style design.
