In dem doch etwas rummeligen Maspalomas ist das SGHR eine Oase der Ruhe. Fast unglaublich die Freundlichkeit und Liebenswürdigkeit des Personals - ausnahmslos! Die Halbpensionsmenüs sind hervorragend, das Frühstück sehr üppig und vielfältig. Auch wenn man dies bei den "Leading hotels of the world" erwarten darf, wird man  freudig überrascht. Wir haben uns sofort wohl gefühlt. Ein hervorragend geführtes Haus, das man uneingeschränkt empfehlen kann.

So stelle ich mir idealen Urlaub vor!

First of all I can only speak for our personal experience so having read other reviews before booking we had very high expectations .
We stayed half board and can confirm the food is to the highest standard however the staff did not communicate to us until the 5th night we were there that you can swap a fish or meat dish from the aka carte menu so was very disappointed with this.
We also found that if you were sitting round the pool or in the piano bar prior to 6pm no staff ever asked if they could get us a drink so we had to go to reception to ask if we could get a drink which is a first for us especially within a 5 star hotel & we have stayed in many.
I was also disappointed with the location of our room especially as I had requested a view as we were celebrating my birthday but our room number 128 was on the ground floor and our view was bushes and behind the bushes was a large piece of waste land again not what I expected being. 5 star hotel and paying the price for a 5 star hotel .
There are positives to the hotel in that it is very clean & quiet and a relaxing oasis from the hustle & bustle of Maspalomas.
We also had a few other minor issues when we ordered a expensive bottle of wine with our meal the waiter forgot to bring this to our table & we had to chase it up after already eating two courses.
So all in all not the 5 star experience we were expecting . I did fill in the question air the hotel left in our room & have also given this feedback via email to the hotel.

Fell Short of 5 Star

I don't know where to start as this is one of the best Hotels we have ever stopped in,from the outstanding welcome we had from Lorenz(o)? Such a genuine friendly guy who gave us a tour after ordering us a drink of our choice while having a 20 minute breather.Our room which was 108 is classed as a superior room was absolutely perfect for us,a lovely private terrace where we sat out every afternoon enjoying a drink,the Hotel is just a haven of tranquility ,no queuing for food,no rushing about,no rushing for sunbeds set in beautiful gardens.Talking about the food it was absolutely delicious every evening as we're the freshly cooked breakfast,the 2 staff who cooked our breakfasts 1 was a lady and the other was a guy with a tattoo on his neck both took great pride in what they cooked and how they served it and they actually brought it to the table themselves they were both so polite and friendly ...fantastic,all the restaurant staff were superb,Jennifer,Rafael and Samuel are just the names I can remember ! I think there were a couple of newer staff aswell who were being gently,discreetly mentored by more experienced staff which was great to see! The room ,maid service was beyond fantastic all happy in their work and we loved the turn down service which seems to be a rarity in hotels these days ,we drink Earl Grey tea,there wasn't any in the room which wasn't a problem as we picked bags up at breakfast,our maid noticed this and bought us Earl Grey everyday it's just the little things like this that puts this place up there with the very best! The only thing I regret is not finding this hotel earlier ,our usual go to place is The Arona Gran in Tenerife which we have been going to for 20 years,this place blows  The Arona Gran out the water and we are hopefully going to book again for next year,our week went far to quicky,we had booked twice before,first was cancelled due to COVID, so this was Third time lucky. Thanks to Mr Robert and his wonderful staff for one of our best holidays ever,Thanks Tim and Julian

Absolute Perfection

Great hotel from the moment we arrived the service are staff are amazing rooms are spacius and so clean we really coudnt fault anythign with the accomodation or food. 

The hotel staff and bathrooms cater for shall we say the older clients whch to be honest is fine for a couple of days but on day 5 became like you had arrived at a Bupa nursing home // Hotel they return year after year knowing lal the staff which is obviously is a great sign for both the hotel and the returning guests. 

We are in our late 50s and there were many guests we met that had the same feeling there just wasnt any life, the entertainemnt whilst of good quality was old hat and there only so much engelbert humperdinck you can listen to. 

Whilst i wouldnt go back at the moment maybe in my 70s it will be perfect

Quality hotel if your 70

Our final night tonight and we’ve had a fantastic stay. The hotel is very well managed and maintained, the staff work incredibly hard to keep this place sparkling clean which is clear to see and very much appreciated. The lush gardens are glorious and so well maintained. 

The staff were all very friendly and helpful and wow, the food is absolutely top notch…we’ve eaten very well. The menus are extensive and as we were on a half board basis we chose freely and happily from the daily dinner menu although there is an alternative a la carte menu at additional costs if required. We were very happy with the choices on the daily dinner menu I have to say. 

We’d wanted to visit for some time but didn’ t think it would suit our children, and children running around probably wouldn’t suit other guests either I imagine. It’s a very sedate, peaceful place and yes, the age profile is older on the whole but I can see why people choose to return here year after year. 

If you want a quality stay with great service and delicious food in lush, tranquil surroundings, this is a place to consider for sure. 

Note: The rooms with a pool view are so pretty and well worth paying extra for. We didn’t choose one and our room (226) felt a little dark and tucked away without a view of anything much apart from trees and the vacant lot next door. Still a lovely room inside though and it didn’t spoil our experience at all, rather a pool view would have been the cherry on the cake for us. We’ll know next time.
