Das Radisson Blu Resort ist eine sehr schöne Anlage mit stilvollen Zimmern und äußerst freundlichem, zuvorkommendem Personal. Der Aufenthalt war insgesamt sehr angenehm. Ein großes Manko ist jedoch die Hellhörigkeit der Zimmer – selbst in den höherpreisigen Kategorien hört man durch die dünnen Verbindungstüren jedes Wort und Geräusch aus dem Nachbarzimmer. Das trübt leider das ansonsten sehr hochwertige Erlebnis.

Super schönes Hotel mit großem Manko

We stayed at the Radisson Blu from April 4-10. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely return if we decide to go back to Gran Canaria. For those who have said it’s not a true five star, I would say it is important to note that first of all, five star hotels vary by country and also that there are several different categories of five star hotels. We have stayed in many five star hotels all over the world and I feel that it’s unfair to compare a five star in Thailand, for example, to a five star in the Canary Islands. Additionally, I also think it’s unfair to compare a Radisson Blu to a Four Seasons, Ritz Carlton or Mandarin Oriental five star property. They don’t pretend to be the in the same category and the prices also reflect that. We paid around €675 per Night for a two-bedroom Apartment / Suite with two bathrooms, fully equipped kitchen, large dining table, sitting room area big enough for four people and huge balcony with large table, sofa, two sun loungers and jacuzzi bath all with what I would consider one of the top sea views we have had in any hotel. The price also included your typical European upper scale hotel buffet breakfast (again, most five star hotels we have stayed at in Europe over the last few years have scaled down on their offering and the quality so I would say the breakfast here is comparable to what most European five star hotels now offer). You don’t get all of of the above at a Four Seasons or Ritz Carlton for that price. In short, the Raddison wasn’t the same quality as one of the top end five star hotels but I would say the experience we had was pretty typical of most European island five star hotels these days and we certainly don’t feel that we could have asked for more at the price point we paid. It’s probably worth noting that the front of the property does look rather a lot like a council car park and we were really nervous as we drove up to the hotel as it looked really underwhelming and uninviting. It’s right by a busy road and, as the hotel is built by the side of a cliff, you arrive at the top of the hotel which is also where the lobby is. The lobby also wasn’t particularly inviting and the check-in desks resembled those of a much cheaper hotel. Having said all of that, once you leave the lobby and go down in the glass lift with views of the ocean, you start to feel more positive and we didn’t go up to the lobby very often so could pretend it wasn’t there. As mentioned above, our suite / apartment was large and airy with everything we could need as a family and all rooms overlook the ocean. My husband has chronic back pain and we were really nervous when we realised that the mattresses looked rather a lot like mattress toppers and were incredibly soft with no support whatsoever. When we phoned reception to see what could be done about the beds, their solution was to put a wooden board under the thin mattresses. At that point, we thought our holiday would be a disaster so asked for the duty manager to come and see us. She came to our room within five minutes and dealt with the situation incredibly well and, from somewhere, found us a proper, firm memory foam mattress. I thought it was worth mentioning for other people who have back problems or find the beds uncomfortable- if you speak to the hotel, they will find you another mattress. From then onwards, we had a wonderful stay. The furnishings in the room were quite basic and I noticed as we walked around, and saw other rooms being made up, that each apartment seemed to have different sofas, coffee tables, etc. As mentioned above, the buffet breakfast was pretty standard for a European island five star and had all the usual offerings. We only had lunch at the pool bar one day and were a bit underwhelmed so made sandwiches in our kitchen and had lunch on our lovely balcony on most of the other days. There is a well stocked and very reasonably priced supermarket on-site and there is a large Spar supermarket in Anfi (about a ten minute walk along the promenade) which has a huge selection of meats and cheeses, etc. we didn’t try the restaurants for dinner so can’t comment. There are several restaurants in Patalavaca which is right outside the property and also several restaurants in Anfi which is a ten-minute walk along the sea front. The nearest resort is Arguineguin which is five minutes down the road and a taxi costs €5 (they are readily available and can be called at short notice). It is worth noting that the hotel has two exits / access points to the beach. One is near the buffet restaurant and brings you out right by Patalavaca beach (greyish sand with huge waves which the kids loved but had lots of jellyfish on a couple of the days that we were there, has sun loungers and cafes / bars behind it but no water sports). The other exit is by the kids club and brings you out to a tiny beach with no facilities (this beach does have a platform from which the kids loved jumping into the sea but the beach was very busy on weekends and there was rather a lot of rubbish that people left behind) and is also the way you want to go to Anfi (beautiful man-made beach with white sand, clear water, water sports, sun loungers, restaurants, etc. this beach has calm and shallow water so very safe for younger kids. As mentioned, it’s about a ten-minute walk but it’s a pleasant walk and we did it several times with two kids, buckets, spades, towels, etc). 

The kids club is basic with no organised activities but our six and eight-year old kids asked to go every day for a couple of hours in the morning when it was still a bit chilly. The two ladies who work there are really good with the kids and did a ton of arts and crafts, played board games, etc. not many kids went but they did have a couple of friends there on some of the days. 

The pool area is lovely especially the grass area with plenty of sun loungers. We never struggled to find space. One pool is a bit colder than the other but that was probably because it was mainly used for lap swimming so cooler water is probably better. The toddler pool was like a hot tub and the kids loved jumping between that and the kids pool. It felt very safe and there were lots of kids for them to play with and nobody seemed to mind them all running around and having fun jumping around the different pools. I get the sense that those who were there without kids chose the sun loungers on the more quiet grassy area. 

All the staff were super friendly and great with the kids. They all tried their hardest and I couldn’t fault them.

Overall, we had a wonderful stay, felt the hotel was good value for money, and would definitely return. It wasn’t perfect that I think it ticks all the boxes for families with children (having the apartment style accommodation really is a bonus) and the price is very reasonable for what you get. If you want more luxury and high-end food then a Four Seasons or Ritz-Carlton would be a better option (the Ritz-Carlton Abama in Tenerife for example is what I consider a high-end five star offering but a two-bedroom sea view suite with large balcony there costs around €3,500 per night as opposed to the €4,000 we paid for six Nights for a similar Type of accommodation).

Lovely family hotel

This hotel has been a disappointment: food is great and our room was ok but some strong negatives: the kids bed (converts from sofa) was rock hard, I mean literally rock hard and my younger daughter was injured by the various poles so ended up sleeping in our bed. Beach out the back is lovely but full of fag ends/broken bottles etc and was not safe for young kids. We stayed a week and didn’t see it cleaned once. Most frustrating is total lack of evening kids entertainment : I just assumed some sort of mini disco then more adult themed show would be on but there is only a singer or musician in the main dining room during dinner so nothing at all for the kids to have a dance too or let off some energy. The hotel also accidentally took my daughter’s beloved teddy she had since birth in the washing and did not return. They promised after we left they would email once spoken to all the staff but never did. They could not grasp how sentimental this teddy was and cared very little. No offer to replace or attempt to alleviate her upset by offering her one from their gift shop, nothing which was very poor in my opinion. The hotel is half owned by time share type owners and they clearly are prioritised. Not suitable for families overall really and sadly wouldn’t return because of this. Certainly not 5 star worthy due to cleanliness of nearby beach and total lack of family entertainment.

Very disappointed in this hotel

The rooms/suites of the hotel are very nice and the great staff is really what makes the difference! From the very friendly and helpful team at breakfast to the people at the pool bar and certainly the reception team - they are all really dedicated and helpful and really go the "extra mile" to make the stay as perfect as possible. Also the housekeeping staff did a great job. The location directly at the sea is just gorgeous and the staff is always supportive and helpful!

Great hotel with very friendly and helpful staff

Abbiamo soggiornato per 6 giorni , usufruendo della mezza pensione in appartamento con una camera da letto, fronte mare. Il bilocale è spazioso, molto bene rifinito (marmo ovunque, l’allestimento della cucina top!…elettrodomestici di alta gamma incassati , cucina molto ampia, fornita davvero di tutto !). La pulizia è uno degli elementi che più mi ha entusiasmato! Inoltre tutti i gg ci fornivano di detersivi per lavastoviglie, cialde di caffè Lavazza in abbondanza, oltre a shampoo&co. 
Il cibo davvero vario e di ottima qualità ! Posizione ottima , fronte mare, piccola spiaggetta per fetta per bambini , piscine meravigliose! Raccomando questa soluzione !!
