I came to stay a couple of weeks ago with two friends and had a lovely stay at Ocean Villas. (Oct 2024) 

The hotel:
Quiet, clean and well kept, relaxing atmosphere.

The rooms:
Clean, spacious and comfortable. We had a honeymoon suite with a garden view. The beds were made and towels changed almost every day. The air-conditioning worked great. There were enough plug sockets and storage space. The room also had a kettle, mini fridge and hairdryer. 

The staff:
Friendly, helpful and attentive.

The location: 
A quiet spot, with a private beach. Corner shops and bus stops nearby. About a 30-40 minute walk to the Grand Baie town centre.

The food:
We went half board. The breakfast options were good; fruit, cereal, pastries, hot food, fresh fruit juices, coffee, pancakes and an omelette station. Dinner was also pretty good. If you don't like Asian food you will probably struggle. One of our group was vegetarian and although there were options, they weren't great.

All in all, we had a great stay here. It's a varied crowd, suitable for couples, families, friends, old and young. 

I would also like to note that Yovana was particularly helpful and friendly.

Also, Kiran who drove us on a number of days is an asset to you. He made our trip memorable and was professional, friendly and knowledgeable. 


A pleasant and reasonably priced stay

Hôtel à fuir totalement, manque de rafraîchissement de l’hôtel, nourriture à huile , nous avions été malade pendant le séjour 3 personnes sur 6 . Plage non nettoyer coussin de plage très sale salon de plage abîmé bref rien pour se reposer !!!

We were sold a double room with pool view on Booking.Com, however to our disappointment, the room (310) we got compared to all pool view was catastrophic.. The ground floor was like a store room with lockers and a big boiler..the bedroom is upstairs with no decking / terrace or outdoor area to relax like other pool view room in the area.. i feel like this room is given to guest on last resort.. 155 Euro per night is no joke, why should the customer bear the damage!!!
this is so frustrating and it was my husband's birthday. The resort didn't even acknowledge it.
it was a wrong decision to book this villa

Bad experience

PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU BOOK OCEAN VILLA GRAND BAIE

We had the worst experience at Ocean Villa. We checked in around 18:30 after a long workday, expecting a relaxing weekend. At first, the reception area gave a welcoming impression, but everything went downhill from there.  

Misleading Booking & Unfair Treatment  
We booked a villa with a pool view, based on the images displayed across their website and social media. The pictures made it seem like the villa was beachfront with a pool view, which is why we made the reservation. However, when a staff member led us to our room, we were shocked. The reality was completely different from the images online.  

- The curtains were not as shown in their online pictures—instead, they were old-fashioned and unappealing.  
- The bathroom was not clean, with water stains and brownish marks on the ceiling.  
- The wardrobe was broken.  
- The terrace was dirty, with leaves everywhere, showing a complete lack of maintenance.  
- The pathway to the villa was dark, with no lighting, and leaves were scattered all over.  
- The towels were smelly, which was very unpleasant.  
- The sofa pillows had moisture stains and were dirty.  
- The sliding door track was filthy and not cleaned at all.  
- The kiosk was already broken on top, making the place look abandoned and haunted.  

Deception About the Pools  
When we were taken to our villa, the staff only showed us two pools, even though the property actually has three. We later asked a security guard how many pools there were, and he confirmed there were three. He then took us to the third pool, which was the beachfront pool we had seen in their photos.  

We were excited to finally take a swim and went to the reception to ask for toothpaste, which the lady thankfully provided. However, we also asked her why we were not shown the beachfront pool initially. She told us that some guests had booked three villas for their families and did not want to be disturbed.  

We asked if we could move to an empty villa in that area and offered to pay extra, but she refused, saying:  
"The clients are difficult and don’t like being disturbed."  

We then asked if the pool was private, and she clearly stated that it was NOT private and that we had the right to use it. However, she still insisted that we should not disturb the other guests, which was completely unfair since we had paid to enjoy the same facilities.  

Horrible Room Conditions  
The room itself was in terrible condition:  
- The bathtub was broken, making it impossible to enjoy a bath.  
- When showering, water leaked all over the bathroom and under the sink.  
- The bed was two single beds pushed together, which kept separating during the night, making it extremely uncomfortable.  
- The bedsheets were as thin as a bathrobe and too small for two people.  
- We called reception late at night to ask for an extra sheet, but no one answered.  

Terrible Dining Experience  
At dinner, the food was disappointing:  
- The fried noodles were too salty.  
- The chicken croustillant was soaked in oil.  

For Rs 9,000 per night (Rs 18,000 for two nights), the food was not worth it at all.  

No Assistance & Dirty Pools  
We went back to our room frustrated and spoke to the receptionist about our concerns, but she simply told us to wait until morning as no one responsible was available.  

We also asked her to turn on the pool lights, and she bluntly said there were none.  

The next morning, we woke up to a huge shock—the pool was green and filthy. At this point, we could not stay another night. We immediately went to the reception to demand a refund, as the place was far too dirty to enjoy. The receptionist agreed but only refunded half the amount.  

Unmaintained Beach  
To make things worse, the beach was dirty, with rocks everywhere and leaves all over the shore. It was completely unmaintained, making it impossible to enjoy a relaxing time by the beach.  

From the bottom of our hearts, we do not want anyone else to fall into their trap of beautiful online pictures. The reality is completely different. It was one of the worst experiences we’ve had in Mauritius, and we would never recommend this place to anyone looking for a weekend getaway.

Worst Experience Ever – Avoid This Place!

Nous avons séjourné dans l'établissement pour 4 jours - 3nuits. A notre arrivée, un jus nous est offert mais malheureusement il est industriel. Lors de notre check-in, nous disons à la réceptionniste qu'il fait très chaud et nous lui demandons si il y a la climatisation. Elle nous répond que non, c'est en panne. Lors de la présentation de la chambre ainsi que de l'établissement, la réceptionniste nous fait découvrir une seule piscine alors que l'établissement en compte 3. Heureusement,  nous avons pu les découvrir grâce à notre passage au SPA. En ce qui concerne le restaurant côté hôtel, cocktails très bien dosés mais gros manque de professionnalisme du personnel. Les verres restent plusieurs jours sur les salons autour de la piscine, ils sont sur leur téléphone et le comble, ils s'allongent sur les banquettes autour de la salle de restauration ! Très très moyen même pour un établissement 3 étoiles ! Nous avons pris un dîner (soirée buffet BBC), plutôt moyen, viandes trop cuites, desserts plutôt industriels que maison et une pseudo pièce montée avec des choux à la crème (tournée) car il fait très chaud et ne sont quasiment pas réfrigérés. L'établissement possède une plage avec un restaurant, nous avons voulu y prendre un verre mais le personnel nous a refusé. La cause, l'établissement était privatisé ce soir là ! Beaucoup de personnel mais très peu de rendement. Par ailleurs,  nohs avons pris des cocktails, mais comme sur la photo ci-dessous, il manque un peu de liquide car beaucoup de glaçons mais tres peu de fluide. Plusieurs fois, les serveuses du restaurant de la plage sont assis dans l'établissement alors que les transats, chaises, mobiliers de plage sont retournés, coussins par terre mais personne ne range. L'hôtel pourrait être magnifique mais il est très vieillissant et le clou du spectacle, l'ancien mobilier est stocké un peu partout à la vie des clients... Une organisation est à revoir !

Photos non conformes à la réalité !
