Disappointed Overall. Japanese signature restaurant was awful. Breakfast was not consistent, best meal was actually lunch, dinner had no variation at all. There was a tribal mentality by the pool. Woke up every morning at 0630, to put are towels on are pool chairs. When in Rome, do as the Romans do??? No issues at all with house keeping. On the last night there was a power outage  , room became humid; and the floor was slippery. The shuttle to the airport went without a hitch. However, we left the hotel a 0700 for a 1220 departure .We ended up arriving at CUN airport at 0830. It was definitely needed, do the fact there have been traffic issues to the airport. There is 24 hour lounge at The palace. Only one problem, the coffee maker was not working. And the coffee bar was not open yet?? And the workers manning that station were reluctant to give us coffee. We have been staying at RIU’s since 2011 , we may have to look at other all inclusive options.

Disappointed to say The least

My wife and I have just returned from our 4th visit to the Riu Palace Mexico. We love this hotel and had a great time once again. Checking in, using the on-line check in made things quick and easy. The staff throughout the hotel were excellent as always. 

Just a few shout outs – Lola, seemed to be everywhere keeping an eye on everything. Thanks to her and Ulises for helping us out for a request that we made. Edward in the main restaurant, was once more lovely and always happy and smiling, as was Abraham in the lunch restaurant. However cleaners, gardeners, waiters and bar tenders were all extremely polite and helpful.

The hotel is set on one of the best beaches we have ever visited with white sand, and turquoise blue sea. The pelicans diving into the sea for fish is quite a sight to see.
The hotel and beach are kept spotless, but the cleaners do like cleaning the tile floors a lot and this can make things very slippery, especially in the toilets and on the pathways.

Food in the main restaurant was varied and tasty. The speciality restaurant menus were great, but we felt that the Japanese and the Krystal menus could be updated just to vary them. The cakes in the Cappuccino coffee bar were excellent – especially the red velvet cake. We have put on quite a few pounds after staying here again!

Much as we love this hotel, it is starting to show it’s age and could really do with a revamp. There were quite a few cracked and loose tiles around the place. The enamel on the bath in our room was peeling in places as well.

We are not fans of the foam party which is on every week now. The entertainment in the evenings was ‘patchy’.  Abba show was poor, and karaoke is really NOT entertaining. But Michael Jackson show was still good, rock show was OK and the horror show in the Tequilla was good . Sadly the Grease show in the Tequilla was cancelled and replaced by more karaoke (yuck).  The Friday night White Party and Neon Party shows in the Tequilla were OK, but just too busy, and not to everyone’s taste, but there was no alternative entertainment in any of the local Riu’s instead of this.

Unfortunately there were a few people spoiling things for others, by bringing their own music down by the sunbeds and playing it, and also a few drunk people getting over excited, falling down the steps in front of the stage (on more than one evening), waving their arms around and basically getting in the way of other people’s view of the entertainment.

Much as we love this hotel, it used to be a more relaxed, special place, but it’s ‘palace’ status seems to be slipping. The service is still great, but the difference (for value for money) between it and the Playacar, Tequilla and Yuccatan has definitely reduced.

Still, we did have a great time once again and may still come back.

Another good stay

First time at this facility, but it took no time to feel at home.  The staff was truly amazing.  They were ALL genuinely friendly and accommodating.  The food and beverage offerings were over the top and so vast that at times it was hard to make a choice what to eat and drink.  The grounds were manicured and gorgeous.  The entertainment was varied and fun.  We will definitely be returning.  

My stay at Riu- Mexico

My wife and I just enjoyed a wonderful winter break at the hotel. The place is 5 star all the way and all the staff from the director in charge to the person who washes the floors are so helpful and friendly. Highly recommended.

A wonderful place to stay, relax and enjoy good food, good wines and excellent service

We have been in Riveria Maya many times. This trip was the best one ever. The entertainment staff is the best. The food was the best we ever had at any resort.  And top shelf alcohol and bartenders.  I do have two comments.  Your beds can use improvement.  I can sleep anywhere. Xcaret has the best beds I've ever slept on.  And please move your smoking area by the pool to an area that is not in the sun. That said, this is now my go to resort.

Best Time Ever
