Your passport should be valid for 6 months from the date you arrive in Sri Lanka.
You should apply for an e-visa for Sri Lanka online here, at least a few days before departure. You should get your approval notice within 24 hours, and you can use this to enter Sri Lanka.

UK Emergency Travel Documents: Accepted for entry, airside transit, and exit from Sri Lanka.
