USA Travel Advice

Entry requirements differ by country. The Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office issues country specific travel advice including Health, Visa and Vaccination requirements.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements for children

  • Children aged 17 and under must hold a valid visa or ESTA on arrival
  • Provide evidence about the purpose of their visit
  • Provide written consent from both parents if travelling unaccompanied

Passport validity

  • Passport should be valid for the proposed duration of your stay
  • No additional period of validity needed
  • Global Entry program for faster border control

Visa requirements

General

  • Visa or Electronic System for Travel Authorisation (ESTA) required
  • Consult the US State Department website to determine the visa you need

e-Visa requirements

  • Not eligible for ESTA if travelled to Iran, Iraq, Libya, North Korea, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, or Yemen on or after 1 March 2011
  • Not eligible for ESTA if travelled to Cuba anytime after 1 January 2021, you will need to apply for a US visitor's visa (B1/B2) via their nearest US Embassy. This ban includes transit, where you’re flying on to another country.

COVID-19 Vaccination Requirements

  • No COVID-19 vaccination requirements for travel to the United States
  • No pre-departure COVID-19 test required

UK Emergency Travel Documents

  • Not valid for entry into the USA or transit on an ESTA
  • Apply for a visa or have a valid lawful permanent resident card (green card) on arrival if using an ETD
